Health Surveillance
Concept Occupational Health can provide health surveillance services to your business, which can be individualised following review of the completed risk assessments from your workplace.
What is health surveillance?
“Health surveillance is putting in place systematic, regular and appropriate procedures to detect early signs of work-related ill health and then acting upon the results. The aim is to identify and protect workers at increased risk and to check the long term effectiveness of measures to control risks to health…. Health surveillance is required by Section 22 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.” (Health & Safety Authority, Ireland)

What will my appointment entail?
During the allocated appointment time, the occupational health advisor will complete a medical questionnaire with you, and depending on your job role, specific tests will be undertaken, which can include audiometry (hearing test) , spirometry (breathing test), skin assessment, height/weight, blood pressure and vision test.
What will happen with the test results from health surveillance?
The specific information will be stored confidentiality by Occupational Health, however, with consent, a fitness report will be provided to the employer. This report will include basic details, such as your name, department, job role and outcome ( medically fit/medically unfit/more information required).
What is the process if my results are outside normal ranges?
Depending on your role, and with your consent, advice may be given to the business regarding recommendations of temporary adjustment of duties. This will allow you an opportunity to attend your GP or other medical specialist for clinical investigation and/or intervention. A letter will be given to you to bring to your GP/medical specialist with information on the reason for further clinical support. Occupational Health will then schedule a review appointment with you.
How often is health surveillance undertaken?
Health Surveillance is a typically an annual programme. However, the tests required on each year may differ depending on HSA/HSE recall guidelines.
